One year ago I photographed this handsome and cheerful young chap along with his parents in their home, and they were so happy with the process and results they got in touch to do another shoot now that he is a bit bigger.
When shooting a situation like this with a family or baby theme I prefer to keep a candid aspect to it, to keep it more natural. Other photographers do fantastic, amazing work in a studio environment but for me personally, I like to let the love and happiness show by keeping everything natural and fun. For me, I think this allows the personality of my subjects really shine through.
As with the first one, we shot in their home which allows for their familiar surroundings which in my mind will attach a greater emotional memory in the photos, but also keeps the baby relaxed and with access to all their favourite toys.
As far as light, I used a combination of natural light coming through the French door and two high set umbrella mounted speedlights so I could control the shadows, provide catch-lights in eyes and so forth.
Myself and the dad were very traumatised by the fact that loud One Direction music is hwat made the little guy dance! Very upsetting...
Below, is a selection of the photos taken on the day.
